Matcha Stories

The green magic powder from East Asia.

Matcha leaves are grown on green tea bushes, kept under shade. The shade increases the amount of chlorophyll content in the leaves,  which is what makes them bright green and full of nutrients.

Matcha, like other green teas, contains a class of antioxidants called catechins. Matcha is high in a catechin called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate). It is associated with health benefits such as detoxifies effectively, lowers cholesterol and blood sugar, calms the mind and relaxes the body.

Matcha tea is made using matcha powder whisked into hot water. Tried couple of times plain matcha tea but I did not enjoy it. It blows my mind once I taste matcha latte. Since then, it is one of my favorite beverages. So simple! Just combine green matcha tea powder  and milk (Oat milk or Almond milk or Whole milk or Soy milk).

Ingredients

    2 teaspoons Matcha powder

1 to 2 tablespoons hot water

    1 cup warm water

    Ice

Milk of choice (I used almond milk)

Instructions

STEP 1.  In a cup, add the matcha powder. Pour in the 1 to 2 tablespoons of hot water and whisk until the matcha has fully incorporated into the water.

STEP 2.  Pour in the remaining 1 cup of water and mix. Transfer to the fridge or freezer to chill for about 15 minutes.

STEP 3.  Add ice and milk of your choice so the glass is about 3/4 of the way full. If you like, add any simple syrup. Lastly, pour in the chilled matcha and stir.
